Application of Geostatistical Conflation Techniques to Improve the Accuracy of Digital Elevation Models

چکیده
This short paper describes and analyzes the results of a methodology that allows to conflate existing Digital Elevation Models with a sample set of elevation points in order to obtain more accurate results on modeling elevation information. The set of elevation points has higher vertical accuracy than the DEM and it is used the geostatistical procedure, known as kriging with an external drift, to perform the conflation. An initial case study is presented integrating a Shuttle Radar Topography Mission SRTM data and a sample set of elevation points obtained from a region of Campinas, city of São Paulo in Brazil. Others procedures of estimations and simulations will be considered in the future to explore the potential of the conflation techniques using geostatistics.

Digital Elevation Model is one of the most important data for watershed modeling whit hydrological models that it has a significant impact on hydrological processes simulation. Several studies by the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) as useful Tool have indicated that the simulation results of this model is very sensitive to the quality of topographic data. The aim of this study is evaluati...

Mapping the spatial distribution of soil taxonomic classes is important for useful and effective use of soil and management decisions. Digital soil mapping (DSM) may have advantages over conventional soil mapping approaches as it may better capture observed spatial variability and reduce the need to aggregate soil types. A key component of any DSM activity is the method used to define the relat...
متن کاملApplication of truncated gaussian simulation to ore-waste boundary modeling of Golgohar iron deposit
Truncated Gaussian Simulation (TGS) is a well-known method to generate realizations of the ore domains located in a spatial sequence. In geostatistical framework geological domains are normally utilized for stationary assumption. The ability to measure the uncertainty in the exact locations of the boundaries among different geological units is a common challenge for practitioners. As a simple a...
متن کاملQuantifying uncertainty in elevation models using kriging
Raster based digital elevation models (DEM) are the basis of some of the most important GIS workflows: hydrologic modeling, site suitability, and cost path analysis. While there are several techniques for generating digital elevation models (DEMs), none of them can produce a true elevation surface. Locally varying measurement error and the inexactness of the interpolation methods contribute to ...
